Sangenjaya Bar Hopping Tour
Tour Overview
When my friends visit Tokyo, Sangenjaya (or more affectionately known as Sancha) is where I take them! Off the beaten track but still close to Shibuya, Sangenjaya is cute local neighbourhood filled with cafes and local shops during the day, but a perfect bar hopping scene at night! Known for tiny streets, little standing bars, and secret entrance style speakeasy's, Sangenjaya is one of my favourite places for a night out in the city!
In this tour, we'll hop to at least 3 local bars, before ending at Karaoke (optional!). Karaoke is scheduled for 1 hour, but if you would like to extend, we can either help organise the extension for you with the Karaoke staff, or you can also choose to extend the tour and your guide will stay and sing with you! Let's party in Tokyo together 🥳
Tour Highlights

What to Expect
Sangenjaya is the perfect place for bar hopping! If you're looking for those tiny Japanese streets, lined with little bars, lanterns and neon lights that isn't the tourist filled Golden Gai, then this is the type of place you're looking for. Expect no English menu's, and few other English speakers, but you'll get the real Tokyo bar hopping experience! And not to worry, our guides can help translate for you, so you don't have to worry if you're not confident in Japanese.
We'll start the tour by meeting at Sangenjaya station before heading to our first bar. Many bars in this area don't open until 8pm, so if we are meeting earlier (7 is the earliest we can accommodate for this tour!) then we'll head over to Sankaku Chitai area first! At the first bar, your first drink is on us so we'll cheers to a great night and then head to our second bar in the same area.
After hopping 1-3 bars in Sankaku Chitai area, we'll head to Suzuran-dori for photos and our final bar! Unless you added karaoke, then it's off to get drinks and snacks and head to some of our favourite karaoke spots in the city.
Most bars in this area have a variety of mixed drinks and classic Japanese beers (think Sapporo, Kirin, or Premium Yebisu) and drinks cost between ¥600 - ¥800. But for this tour, we can also make sure to hit some cool craft beer bars if you like! Craft beer in Tokyo is a bit more expensive, so expect to pay at least ¥1,000 for a small, or ¥1,500+ for a large.

I've always loved travel, but thought traditional tours felt too impersonal—so I'm on a mission to change that! With my tours, I hope you'll feel like you're being guided around by a local friend. I’ve lived in Tokyo for over five years and specialize in old Tokyo, seasonal flowers, anime spots, izakaya hopping, speakeasies and craft breweries. I’m always happy to customize and bring my camera to help capture the memories!

Taro 🇯🇵
I’m Taro, a Tokyo local who loves showing people around this crazy city. When I travel, meeting new people is my favorite part. So now that you’re in my town, I get to be that friend for you! Growing up here, I can take you to the real local spots. So my specialty tours are bar hopping and karaoke tours, nature trips, and the off-the-beaten-path, underground tours. But just let me know what you're looking for, Tokyo has something for everyone!
FAQ's
1. Is there an age restriction for this tour?
Yes! The drinking age in Japan is 20, so anyone under 20 years old cannot join this tour.
2. If we are a group of women, can we guarantee a female guide?
Yes! If you request a female guide, we can guarantee this request. However, it may slightly reduce availability.
3. I don't drink alcohol, can I still join this tour?
Yes! While one drink purchase per guest is generally mandatory in each bar, you can order a non-alcoholic drink such as tea or cola.
4. I want to do this tour and go to karaoke, but I'm by myself. Can I request more than one guide to make it more of a party atmosphere?
Yes! Any group size up to 3 can make this request at the additional cost of ¥10,000. If the request is for Karaoke only, any size of group can make this request (mainly due to the small size of the bars—if we have 6 or more people it can be hard to fit!)
5. How much is it to extend the tour?
To extend the tour for 1 hour ending before midnight costs ¥5,000. To extend for 1 hour ending past midnight costs ¥10,000. It's up to the guides discretion if an extension will be accepted if it was not agreed upon beforehand, and payment must be made upon agreement and in cash.
6. Do I need to bring cash?
We recommend bringing some cash just in case! Most bars accept credit card, but not every bar does. For karaoke it's also generally not possible to split the bill, so if you want to split amongst friends, bringing cash is the easiest!
